Birth to 9 Weeks
Welping takes place in a crib in next to me in my master bedroom
As our Dam's due date gets closer X rays are taken about a week in advance. My welping crib, oxygen, heating pad, scales, and every birthing tool I have learned the importance of having close by is setup clean and sterilized. I keep a very close eye on our sweet Momma and her precious puppies day and night as her labor progresses. As puppies are born they are weighed, latched to momma and given a color collar then tracking from birth begins. They are weighed several times a day to verify healthy puppies. My veterinarian has taught me the art of sub Q and tube feeding if a puppy requires it. Breeding is not for the faint of heart, luckly more often than not everything is text book perfect. Should we have a puppy in distress, or born smaller I am willing to put in the exrta long hours it takes and have more puppies live a full healthy life. Just look at our own Cali she is a momma now herself. Also having a fantastic close group of friends aka other breeders I can call on has helped me understand "when you know better you do better"
As early as 3 days old we start to handle and provide ENS stimulation with the puppies up to 14 days. Once puppies move on to the next phase as eyes start to open and they are moved to the new born nursery, were they can start to wiggle and scoot around more and momma will start to take longer breaks away from them.
*Calls are made after birth to familes in waiting, then deposits are made once eyes are open.

Transitional period has begun day 14-21 Eyes are open & they are starting to toddle around. Sensitive period is 3 to 16 weeks

In the transitonal period once the puppies eyes are open, as we have been handing feet from day 3 we will trim nails Introduce potty pads, classical music and check for first teeth and weekly weights are taken.
As they move to the Sensitive stage we introduce the kennel with the door open and the litterbox with pine pellets, once they wake up its time to move and go potty, we give this a few days before we introduce food so they know pellets are not food. Its now time for first bath, blow dry, ears and nails we are using the recall phrase “ puppy, puppy, puppy” and classical music when its time to settle for nap or bed time. We continue to handle daily and will start the Startle recovery exercises of doors shutting, vaccumes, clapping, and most typical household noises, like pans dropping, TV is on, dogs barking or the chiming of a grandfather clock.

Enrichment and socialization, problem solving tasks & learning lessons begin for days 28-42
Our puppies learn we have a much larger puppy pen we use we call it our "puppy park" because of all of the fun things there we do together and they learn. There is a bigger litter box, & artifical turff for potty, more toys with more sounds and textures. They are learning to climb over small ramps and obstacles. They are introduced to the snuffle mat, and lick mats with new tasts and textures. The crate doors are still left open with a soft bed and classical music for nap times. They are still handled daily and weekly bath, blow dry, ears cleaned, hair and nails are trimed We also change to a puppy collar they will wear home. They are introduced to outside ( as weather permits) and limited supervised socialized vists from people they have not met before. We will add a harness, and puppy clothes and work on feeding the puppy once a day in the create with the door open. They will have left momma home for their first vist for 6 week shots and deworming and overall wellness checkup.

puppies can do hard things! From day 43 to gottcha day

They are very smart and respond well to high stimulant rewards, be it a treat or food they addore. We teach them to climb on the wabble board, slides and ramps.. We STRONGLY suggest ramps for all doxies if your going to allow them on your furniture or if you have stairs. Our puppies are taught to sit and look you in the eye before you pick them up..no jumping, nor do we allow them to play bite hands. They are taught to walk in a shalllow pan of water and to recover from loud noises. Its nice for clean up by this time as 90% is found in the litter box. We continue with everything they have learned this far just dailing it up a notch. I will leave them in the park for a few hours with the camera on so they can play and learn its ok to be left in a safe place with food, water and the crate is open for naps with out an adult near by they can see or hear. I feel this will help them once they are home and you run errands for a few hours. At 8 weeks old its back to the vet for the next shots and deworming and placement of AKC microchips. Additional arrangements are made with the vet for those puppies that will be flying home to get the extra paperwork in place that will allow them to fly. Be it with you in cabin, or the pet nanny you may hire. We will meet you at one of two pre-arranged locataions at the Salt Lake City International Airport or you may drive to our home when its time to be placed in your loving arms on Gottcha day. We want the transisition to be as comfortable as possible for our puppies, each one take a piece of my heart home with them when they leave for your home. I can promise I do shed tears shed when they leave, and I look forward to photos of them thriving in your home as they did here.

breeders bootcamp
Educate* empower* support
Stephanie Major, creator and founder of Breeders Bootcamp has more than 15 years of experience in breeding and raising puppies. It is through this experience that she has come to understand the critical role breeders play during the first nine weeks of a puppy's life, and that there is much we can do to help each puppy develop a strong foundation. She is a stong believer in good, better, best and believes that there is always room for growth and learning.
This is why we here at Cream Doxie Luv support and follow her training courses we have seen the diffrence in our own Breeders Bootcamp Puppy. We wish all our own dogs would have come from a Breeders Bootcamp breeder. When you know better, you do better.
